jerepp,

Wow, thank you! Great thoughts.

I agree with you about going from the 'frying pan into the fire' when you say hopping around. However, since the 'latest' improvement by lefora the issues have compounded, not diminished.
As a few quick examples:
We are no longer able to link directly to the Wargames Factory web site.
Numerous new requirements to re-sign into lefora vs. almost none prior to the switch.
After finally having almost every current member able to post pictures, the switch has caused numerous issues from current members who can no longer post successfully. This has also caused a huge increase in other forum service complaints.
Ad ware everywhere now which is distracting and annoying.
A dramatic drop in forum conversations since the change.

Do you have any suggestions on forum services?

Jim

I get why we are talking about this... the old forums had some problems and I get why you would upgrade to newer version of the same.  It is very sad that the newer version seems to have seriously broken basic functionality that mostly worked in the old version while at the same time dropping some nice features that worked fine under the old system.  I do not even know if the new version really fixed any of the old issues like suddenly changing fonts and such but the problems it has thrown up seem to be far worse than the old complaints.  It is sad that this new version seems to be a completely different piece of software rather than an improvement on the old software.

I have not looked at Forum software in a while but when I last did nothing seemed to be a complete package.  They all seemed to have fairly serious issues in some basic functionality.  Anyway you can read some reviews on http://www.forum-software.org/forum-reviews/hosted

jerepp,

Thank you very much for the information! As the Boomer in our group I have the least computer knowledge. I am not sure if your information has been checked out, but I will do so.

Any other thoughts from everyone would be greatly appreciated as WGF really wants a forum our customers can use and enjoy.

Jim

Wow it's great to see everyone (again)-I actually got on here fine...then 'Science Project Goes Phut' and off I was (again).

I miss the old days.....

On a serious note, the new forum really does diminish my enjoyment and can be frustrating to say the least. Still, nice to get one when I can and see everyone :)

I go there when something links to it and will occasionally look something up or pop in to check a particular thing out but it is too old and clunky for me to just hang out there.  As I said works but it is not by any stretch awesome... it is there and people have figured out how to get what they need out of it.

TMP doesn't have a good way to easily track threads you've contributed to. I often forget which ones I've posted in.

Also, a lot of people use Google to search for things on TMP, rather than it's integral search function.

My favorite forum format is used by Lead Adventure Forum, easy to see the headings, easy to track threads, easy to read. Galleries.

This is my second try to post here, on this thread. 2 minutes ago I finished, clicked "quick reply".....I was knocked off of this forum I had to log in again too...Lefora sucks!!

TMP format AND sharper/brighter print/words is much easier on old eyes.

Jim,
First off, dont be so quick there to 'claim the prize' of Least Computer Savy... Today I "broke" my garage. (I wish that was a joke). The point being, I did that with a simple garage door opener, NO Computer required. (I dont do well with 'hi-tech', like doorknobs). Also, despite some of your and others best efforts and advice, I am still one of those that have been 'completely' unable to post a single photo for over a month. Im so frustrated with Lefora, I have not, nor will I even try any more. Until we CHANGE to a newer format.

As for TMP, I have visited on rare occasions, as mentioned above, usually lead there as the result of a 'bing' or 'google' game related search. However I think I will start checking them out closer over the holiday, see how it works and about becoming a member there also. The Lead Adventure Forum is another that I need to check into. However, I have no intentions of bailing out on the WF, but like most..(everyone it seems) a change cant come too soon for this 50+ big kid at heart.

Jim
I have since joined TMP and have read a few posts. Over all I do like their layout and the way things seem to run so far. I really need to spend more time there to get a better feel for and understanding the workings of their format. As for uploading, Im afraid I just dont 'go there' as a rule and even less do I use my new TMP account, so when I get here, (library) I cant remember my "frack'n sack'n pack'n" password! Lord I think we will someday need a password to 'Pass-away'. Hmmm, now that would be a laugh wouldnt?

Now of more interest to everyone Im sure..
Jim, whats the latest with the LEAVING LEFORA situation, sir? The first thing I noticed when I 'Logged In' is that there were practically No new posts since I was here last week. Lord Lefora is just 'killing' Our forum.

jack,

I agree with your observations.

On the password issue most web sites will allow you to change your password if you have forgotten it. Also the "remember my password" on your home computer works well for sites such as this one. When a system reboot from Microsoft, et al occurs either reset your password or have the password written down and kept in a hidden location. (I do NOT recommend this for anything other than game related web sites.)

My research on the lefora issue has given me some surprises. Believe it or not but on some review sites lefora (before this latest change) scored very high in the ratings. TMP's site scores very low with the younger customers overall.

There is no decision on what forum system to utilize. I will update everyone as soon as I have further information to share.

Jim

Recommend staying away from the envison software. I'm a moderator on another site using that, and we've run into serious issues there. We're planning to move to different software soon. The software for TMP obviously has been useful, but there is software out there that can function a bit better than it's older format. Things like Simple Machine and phpbb are software packages that are more user friendly, ads can be avoided, and pictures can be posted as well. Look for a host provider that focuses on customer service if at all possible.

jack,
PLEASE try to post your great pictures on TMP, and then let me know if you are successful.

Jim since last week I have tried repeatedly to upload pictures to my TMP membership, no luck. This evening when I logged on at TMP I found a cpl of replies to my attempts and references on the Forum as too my situation. One that had replied, pointed out that pictures "have" to be uploaded from "flicker or some likewise" online site. The system apparently only 'posts photos' via link.
So if thats the case, the very good old WF Original Forum days of simply clicking on the "upload' button seems to be gone. As all of my photos were simply uploaded directly from my computer or my flash drive. NOW.. it seems I have to join Flicker or some other photo sharing site if I want to post photos ever again.

Well here's to hoping things get (changed) better soon. Cant be soon enough.

Jack, try photobucket. I've used them for years and they're pretty good.

I was already in the habit of uploading my pictures and linking from, so I never really noticed the change.
