I was looking longingly at the British Firing Line figures and I wondered if WF had considered doing a 'command' sprue?

An officer(of variable rank), sergeant/NCO, bugler, etc maybe even a commisary?  Some pistols, a Bugle, ammo boxes and some arms in slings would be a wonderful addition...  Or would these be better as a metal range?

Just thought I'd share.

Obvious problem is that a command sprue would sell significantly less than the basic grunt sprue - at best, I would expect to see no more than 1 command sprue sold to every three grunt sprues.

Maybe - I have no idea how many sprues of the thin red line there have been sold so far.

However, there might be many other sprue concepts that might sell a lot more.

In any case, once the League moratorium is over, anybody is free to submit a proposal for such a sprue.

Good point - though repacking the box with 1 command and 3 grun may perhaps widen the appeal.

My gut feeling would be that these would be great as part of the WF metal line.

The problem with metal (besides cost of course) is that you end up with a set number of poses. Plastics generally allow you a range of poses even with the same set of pieces. Just have to wait and see what happens.

4 new body sculpts (officer, nco, whatever)
open hands to put in objects
Swords
Horn
Flag
Pistols
Hunting Rifle/Elephant Gun
Maybe the short cape you sometimes see officers wearing
Scabbards

Oh no! Not the Heath Ledger 'Feathers'!

I was asked to be a talking head for the DVD version of that movie (because I've written a couple of books on colonial wars). It didn't happen, because the company that handled that end of things couldn't swing getting a film crew to visit me (they used my friend Prof. Rick Norton, who was closer to their base).

This was lucky, really, because the movie stunk, and I'd have had to, er, avoid all mention of that!

The 1939 'Four Feathers' is the one to see!

Oh and another thing to try to squeeze on the command sprue, a box or two of ammo. Maybe one designed so two guys could carry it?
Just watched Zulu again last night when I should have been painting or sleeping.
I was inspired when the two injured fellows started crawling along handing out the ammo.

GOOD MORNING (MY TIME)!

since most folks i know play TSATF, SPACE1889:SOLDIER'S COMPANION, COLONIAL ADVENTURES, and PATROLS IN THE SUDAN, which have basically 20 man sections, platoons, and companies, including command, i think that WF deffo needs to make multi=part plastic command sprues.

GENERIC LINE INFANTRY COMMAND BOX consisting of Commanding Officer, 1-2 Junior Officers, Surgeon, Quartermaster/Commissary, RSM/CSM, at least 2 SGTS, at last 4 CPLS, 3 Musicians, and 5 Soldiers for the Battalion Color Party/Ammo runners/Medical Orderlies. a box of 20 infantry bods with assorted noggins, assorted headgear, bugles/drums, medical orderly packs, 4-6 ammo boxes that could be carried by two men, with needed specialist limbs, etc. flagpoles are so easily made from 1/32 piano wire as to be unnecessary.

thus 1 box of command and 2 boxes of line infantry will give the players using the most popular colonial rules enough soldiers for a company with a few spares left over for wotever they desire them for.

1 box command and 2 boxes line infantry would also provide SOLDIER'S COMPANION gamers with the core for battalion command and companies w/ command, too.

win-win as i sees it!

And any idea how much sprue space that all would require?

(And while at it, don't forget to include the flagpole - it is much more convenient for the customer to get one as part of the sprue, than be told to go chasing piano wire.)

YES, i have a pretty good idea, but have not worked with injection molding plastic casting in a ba-zillion years or so. . .

that is why i distinctly wrote "COMMAND BOX" in my message.

it would be a box full of sprues dedicated to building unit HQs, noting more ,nothing less.
